2.2 DTi fuel and oil filter change
« on: 04 June 2008, 10:10:26 »

Hi there,

I'm going to do a service on my 2.2 DTi Elite saloon and wondered if anyone could tell me where the fuel filter is and how to change it (pics would be great). I can't see a guide in the maintenance section.

Also, I found the 2.5TD oil filter change guide - it seems to be similar to my engine in the location of the sump and oil filter housing, but is there anything different about the later diesel engine and the steps involved?

Thanks for any help.

I can tell you the two engines are different, there are people way better qualified than me to expand but in short the 2.5TD was a 6 cylinder BMW engine fitted by Vauxhall to the Omega (earlier models).
Facelift onwards use Vauxhall's own 2.2 TD 4 cylinder.
I would expect the fuel filter might be the same location for both engines, but I'm only guessing - typically they are fairly spottable in the engine bay.

Follow up - looking in my 2.2 TD engine bay I'm pretty sure the fuel filter is sitting just below the brake servo

Thanks for your help.

Now I just need to work out what a brake servo looks like and what a fuel filter looks like. :)

If you're serious hope this helps, just a random petrol engine bay pic

If the pic doesn't appear see http://picasaweb.google.com/rickaking/Desktop/photo#5208340905331554514

Hi the fuel filter is on the drivers side between the expansion tank and the bulk head. You will see two black pipes and a electric cable going into it. You can loosen the expantion tank buy removing the clip to the inner wing and pushing it towards the engine to free it. You will need a torque fro the top of the fuel filter.
After you have replaced it full the filter with diesel before starting, I did not at first and had to give it a tow to start will remember that one the next time.
The oil filter is on the passenger side at he back of the engine you will see a black cap with a hexagon on top.
You will need a 36 m/m socket(ebay)

Thanks chaps.

I have already done the oil change. Does anyone know how much oil there is likely to be in the sump below the lowest level of the dipstick? We have an oil extractor and pumped the oil out using a long thin tube down the dipstick pipe. Extracted about 5 1/2 litres, which I think is the sump capacity.

I will do another oil change by draining it in about 6 months, but this time I had no axle stands and didn't fancy playing about underneath just using a jack.

I will find out how much a fuel filter from Vx is as Halfords seem to have stopped stocking them at my local town.

I know on the 2.5TD engine I put in 6 litres of oil when I did my oil change, and still ended up putting in around another 1/2 litre to bring it up to the top mark on the dipstick (that's leaving it 24hrs to all drain down into the sump before topping up)  I guess around a litre and a half maybe between the two marks on the dipstick?
