Under powerd and sluggish on accelerating.
« on: 06 June 2008, 08:07:42 »

Just wondering whats the cheapest/easiest way of finding out what would make my 2.2 Gls feel like its missing on acceleration....seems too have a general lack of go,seems worse when climbing a long steady hill requiring it too be knocked down at least a gear.

When accelerating feels like a long flat spot or missing but seems better if throttle is floored, but still not as it should be.... :-?

Oh and its manual gear box and revs pretty much right through to upper limits.

Will attempt paper clip test later....if needed.

You cant paper clip a 2.2

you can try pressing brake an accelerator, turn on ignition, EML may flash codes, but  I doubt it.

I would whip the coil pack out and check it isnt wet / oily.
also press the spongy bit under the scuttle, above the engine, see if that is damp, they can drip water onto the engine and cause bad running.

Only takes 2 mins - see AA's 2.2 spark plug change guide

Other things you could try are replacing the fuel filter, cleaning the throttle body and breather, easy on the 2.2, just get new gaskets 1st.

If the engine management light is on then might be worth purchasing a cheapo tech 2 to read the codes (paperclip test will not work or the pedal trick).

If not I'd guess that the plugs and leads need changed.

Its a 2.2 - no leads, coil per plug setup

remember, just because the light is off, doesnt mean there are no codes.

plenty of errors can be stored that dont illuminate the light
