Servicing & repairs?
« on: 07 June 2008, 22:15:35 »

Having just bought myself a 2001 2.2cdx auto last weekend and then driven to France and back I reckon it could do with a service and cambelt change.
Can anyone recomend anyone in the Bedfordshire area who knows what they are doing with these cars and who don't charge the earth. I also have at least a couple of fualts that need sorting out. One with the headlight & whilst I was away the engine symbol came on permanantley (not the one with the spanner through it) & I'm not sure what that means. Could it be linked to a blowing exhaust?

You will need the ECU read by a TechII, contact The Boy, and take a trip to Brackley.

2.2 cambelt easy enough to do, honestly. Do waterpump at same time, as its cambelt driven.  Obviously oil and filter change is easy as well, and if you get a TC card, you can do it for under a tenner :y

EML - will need codes reading, but sounds like emissions light, which may well be linked to exhaust blowing.  Again, get a TC card, can do exhaust with genuine parts for less than garage charges for pattern. Tunnie and I did his dads 2.2 last week.  User Albatross is a Bedford boy, and I think has access to TC if you don't ;)

Is it servicing you do or just the ECU stuff? Also what is a TC card & where do I get one from. Having just bought the car all this stuff is new to me so please excuse my ignorance, but any help and advice is much appreciated.

TC is a Vauxhall trade club, means you get certain service parts alot cheaper than normal.
You will need to join a club like www.autobahnstormers.org or similar and they will send you there club TC card ;)

I work in IT, nothing to do with cars.  As I own a Tech2, I do ecu diags, and will happily show anyone how to do jobs.

Cheers Guys

I'm in Leighton Buzzard if that helps.

Could you please tell me how long it takes to run a diagnostic check & when you would be able to do what you need to do with your Tech 2 on my Omega.

Am I right in thinking that if I take the car to a local independant service chap he wouldn't have a tech 2 unit & therefore wouldn't be able to do the diagnostics properly.

If you want your cam-belt doing for you, I was talking to JamesV6CDX, who came to my house today and did mine on my 3.2, and he said that he'd be happy to help.

He said it might be worthwhile him coming over to do your belt and my ATF change on the same day to save him travelling to the same area twice in quick succession.

You only need an "interest" in the V6 to be eligible to join .. you don't need to own one.... :)

So as you are, obviously, :) jealous of the luxury and power of the V6, that makes you interested .. so you can join ....  :)

Easy ... :)

OK Albatross that sounds interesting. How much would he want & would it be better for me to come over to you?
