Opinion on comment re my LPG
« on: 08 June 2008, 11:03:08 »

As some will know, my LPG injectors were refitted and my car now runs like a dream

however, a previous problem is that the mixture was running a little lean causing the EML to flicker on until i gassed it a bit, then it would go out, the mixture was enrichened which helped a bit, but since my injectors were resituated, it's like its running a little too rich so when i'm on the pedal it occasionally (not always) flashes the EML on again, and it goes out when i lift

it isnt storing any fault codes and the fella said its possible that a PETROL injector might not be closing properly and is possibly dripping a bit of petrol onto the cat (?)

could that cause the EML to flicker on, wouldnt it stay on?

although the car runs perfect again, it seems i'm not seeing an end to some sort of problem no matter how tiny, which is bloody frustrating when i need to sell the car :(

I had a problem with mine, where it wouldn't accept anything more than light throttle upto 2,000rpm.

Turned out to be it was also injecting petrol at the same time as LPG - and was too much fuel for the engine obviously!  No ECU light came on through.

I had a saab 2.5 900 (same engine) with LPG, and that had the ECU light come on now and again but went when I gave it a bit more gas.

Might be worth checking on a  rolling road to see if its running rich/lean.

Probably a good idea to get ahold of an interface so you can connect this up to your laptop.  You can then check the tuning yourself, fairly straight forward to work out if the mixture is incorrect.  Does sound like that's the problem.  I've got the software here if you decide to go down that route.  ;)

I agree. Get hold of the mapping software for the LPG system. A rolling road session would be a waste of time without this, IMO, since they wouldn't be able to make any adjustments, and unless you went to a rolling road with experience of your LPG system they probably wouldn't be willing to fiddle with it anyway.

IME, LPG systems (and petrol injection, for that matter) can be set up pretty much perfectly on the road without the need for the expense of a rolling road.

Kevin

the guy i'm seeing on saturday about it has the software and a laptop, he's the guy that's practically recfitied everything i didnt like about it since it was done

his code reader failed to find the fault on saturday that captain zok found last night, which is why he wasnt sure what to do about it, and his thoughts about petrol injector sticking.

OK. Leaking petrol injector could cause a duff mixture, of course. The way to find out would be to get it running on LPG, then remove the fuel pump fuse and see if the fuel injector duration changes. (might need to depressurise the petrol system)
