Strange Light
« on: 09 June 2008, 18:32:46 »

Hi All

Just driven back up the M5 following a blisteringly hot few days
in Perranporth in Cornwall.
Took it steady on the way back as the outside temp was at times reading 33 degrees. (Mental note must get aircon fixed). Got back
close to home and decided to top the diesel up at the local garage.
When I fired the beast up again I had the warning light next to the
ABS light illuminated and seemed to be limited to about 3,000 rpm.
Not sure what the light is for as cant find my handbook at the moment.
Pulled over and switched off and on. When it fired up again all dash warning lights out as they should be but ran for about 2 seconds and cut out. Fired it up again and all seems ok. Any ideas? could it just be the heat or because I had just come off the motorway non stop from Cornwall? Shall I phone the scrapyard now? :'(

You can do the paperclip test but just make sure you have the car running. Read the codes and post on here. It may be the crankshaft sensor or the camshaft sensors at fault BUT paperclip it first.

O.K. Just about to do the paperclip test.
Might sound a stupid question but do I insert the paperclip
before or after starting the car?
All those electrics look a bit expensive so better to be safe than
sorry! :-/

Not all TDs are paperclipable.  How old is the car?
