Exhaust....
« on: 02 May 2008, 20:09:02 »

Hi All,

Passed the MOT...but was informed there was a tiny exhaust leak that should be fixed. (did not mention where it was leaking though?  :'()

If I had to replace the exhaust, can someone advice the list of items that are needed? (preferably with Vx part numbers / price please?)

I love my Omeeeeega and would like to keep her as long as I can...

Cheers

sorry can't help on part numbers, but your on the right line.

Please fit a GM exhaust, kwik fit crap is false economy, and will make the car sound awful!

Is it blowing?

At least it past, another 12 months ticket  :y

Would it not be showing as an advisory on the MOT sheet?

TBH...if its not something you can hear yourself then perhaps its just worth waiting until you can before doing anything to fix it?? Or go back to the MOT place and ask them? :)

It is not blowing, there is no hissing sound and it is not on the MOT sheet.

When I got home I checked the whole length of the exhaust pipe and noticed considerable amount of rust at the joint where the rear box is connected. I also tried my best to check the whole length by listening and running my hand on he pipe when it was cold - first thing in the morning when I started her. Could not hear or feel any leak. Is there any other way to check where its coming from?

Ahhh..I forgot mention the MOT tester also said that my CATs are in good condition and they are the original ones.

As the exhaust pipe joints are very rusty and considering the the age of the car, to replace with GM parts, how many sections are there in the full exhaust set? which ones are recommended to be replaced?

I cant see the point in replacing the exhaust before its actually blowing...but when you do there are 2 centre boxes and a rear box on the v6 Omegas...may be worth getting some help from someone on here near you with a trade card so that when you need them you can get genuine Vaux replacements which iirc are about £250 for the complete exhaust system (minus the cats which you dont need anyway by the sound of it) which is very good! :)

Or take your time and find a good condition genuine Vaux exhaust on ebay or from a member on here...if its not broke dont fix it! :)

Chris, Dazzler, Tunnie, many thanks for the valuable advice.  I'll keep going until I hear an exhaust leak/noise.

Is there any additional items like a joint gasket, nut/bolts needed?

If by chance I could detect a leak in the near future, can a member help me with a TC card please?

Hi All,

My exhaust leak is now getting worse and I believe it's time to change the  pipes and the end box from cats down.

As recommended, can a fellow member assist with a Trade club card to buy the necessary items from Vx please?

With kind regards

Well I can help if there is noone closer (I'm in Reading).

But you are sure its blowing?  I know how easy it is to start hearing things once someone suggests it..  I do it all the time!

I could clearly hear the exhaust leak at idle.  When accelerating it gets louder.  As I want to keep her running as long as I can, hence the decision to go for the OOF recommended original Vx parts.

From the map I could see a few closer to me. I guess they might not have a TC card. I'll wait and see for a couple of days.

Many thanks for the TC card offer....will PM you by middle of next week.

With kind regards
