2.2 estate exhausts
« on: 09 June 2008, 19:28:49 »

I've just confirmed that the middle section of my exhaust has a hole in it. Thats the section where it splits into two & then goes into the back box.
Does anyone know how much this section costs and where I could get one preferebly fitted as I'm not that good with the spanners & I'll probably end up putting a hole in the fuel tank or something!

Or you could replace it with the 2 litre system from the cats back....one centre section one back box....less money same (lack of) performance.  Thats what I've done and would do again....just a thought :y

I've been quoted £225.00 supplied & fitted inc the vat so I guess £130+vat is about right.

Why does the 2.2 have a left & right pipe going into a single back box if the single pipe system from the 2.0 fits & works

Exhaust is changed in 2.2 – probably due to loudness in 2.0. I don’t think that there is a way to fit 2.0 exhaust into 2.2 car. You would have to replace end box and few hooks.
Check the price of BOSAL and WALKER. These are Vx (GM) suppliers and can guarantee same quality as Vx ones (same exhaust, different badge).
You can get Bosal almost everywhere (http://www.leisureshack.co.uk/osb/showitem.cfm/Category/9 ) or MotorPartsDirect. As per Bosal, I will give you a phone no to call their rep.
You might get Vx quality for smaller price.

please fit GM, do NOT fit pattern, sound awful, they are also false economy. GM ones last so much longer

Cat back for 2.2 costs £230 on TC from a dealer, fitted one to my dads 2.2

Pattern quote was £360!!!!!

Tunnie - Was it easy to fit and did it come with all the rubbers & brackets?

By the way the guys who quoted £225.00 were quoting for either Bosal or Arvin with a 2yr warranty!

The Bosal/Walker you buy direct are inferior quality to what they supply to Vauxhall.

If you're lucky, they might even last 2yrs.  But not much longer though.  GM parts are significantly better quality, last longer, and are quieter.

Yeh, thats because they only last 2 years!

GM one that came off my dads 2.2 was orginal! lasted 7 years at 98k miles. One came off mine, also lasted 7 years & 102k

PATTERN IS FALSE ECONOMY.

They also sound naff, ruin the feel of the car.

Won't need the rubbers, just re-use the current ones. Brackets yes, already on the zorst  ;)

Only thing you may need to buy is clamps, I ordered cat back gm for my 2.2, came with the brackets, when i ordered my dads, did not come with any.

No big deal, i picked them up from a local motor factors for £1 each. (you need 3)

I wouldn't put my experience on that :) - new GM exhaust last ca 4-6 years, same as Walker and Bosal.
New products (GM, Bosal, Walker or any GM supplier) are not the same as the were 10 years ago.
"No name, High quality products" are much worse, last up to 2 years.

Same thing with shocks - my mom has original GM (Sachs) shocks in her 98 Omega, while Opel has many claims about new GM geniune Sachs - they tend to leak in 2 year old cars!.
Reason? Production of most components was moved from Germany around 00-04 to cut costs.

BTW - which GM exhaust components are on the TC discount list?

The quality of Bosal/Walker/etc exhausts I've popped off cars recently is definately poor, and these are exhausts are only around 2-3yrs old. Shocking.  The quality of genuine parts I've put back on (be it Vauxhall, Audi, or Ford) is significantly better.

My little Rover, alas no genuine parts available, has pattern parts from same supplier on.  Often don't get much more than 2yrs from them.
