mayo in inlet manifold
« on: 26 June 2008, 15:38:58 »

I have mayo in the inlet manifold - its the 3 cylinders at the back of the engine.

Does that mean both head gaskets have gone?

head gasket failure is when the gasket between the oil well and coolent well breaks apart and they come into contact with each other. this is what causes the car to over heat and the mayo to appear, however its normally found under the oil filler cap or on the dipstick, as there wouldnt be any water coming into contact with engine oil in the inlet,  its prob just dampness, has the car been sitting for a while?

The oil filler is totally covered in mayo as well.

Its good practice to replace head gaskets in pairs on V6's.
