While messing with the new engine going into the beastie (2.5 V6) I noticed what looks like an aftermarket adonised aluminium valve (screw down shut, screw up open to air) inserted in the breather pipe between brake servo and plenum.

Any ideas what this might be for ? :-?

It introduces an air leak and relieves the mug who bought it of 39.99. Other than that, it has no purpose.

Anyhoo ... the engine is being dropped into an LPG vehicle -- doubt the gizmo would work with LPG   ---- at the very least it will introduce yet another source for probs !!!  So -- off it comes!!!

took this off my golf due to head gasket blowing and not needing it any more, got me an extra 6-8 mpg everytank. supposedly improves performance but cant say i noticed any improvement. link to website

The idea behind these devices is that they introduce an air leak into the induction system on the overrun which leans the fuel mixture and saves fuel.

It might do just that on an old curburettor car (many carbs have various arrangements that achieve the same thing - so making this device pointless) but these have been out of production since the late '80's / early '90's in any case.

On a fuel injected car, the ECU will cut fuel completely on the overrun so at best these devices will do bu663r all for economy. At worst they will reduce the vacuum available to the brake servo and climate / multirams and confuse the ECU by adding unmetered air to the system.

In summary a total choccy fireguard.

plus they're not even listed for the V6 on the Ecotek website as they know it ain't gonna do anythin apart from cause trouble with the mig's complex dual-ram and breathers
