Front coil springs

Gonna change the struts next week. The shocks are definately tired and down on damping. Do I change the springs as well ?

It's about an extra £70 quid for the springs and I could do without changing something that is probably ok.

The cars done about 96k.

What's the general opinion ?

Personally, I'd only change springs on failure, or if I was modifying the car (eg, lowering)  :-/

So I take it that if they're look ok, then they probably are.  I thought they may have weakened or is that unlikely ?

The rears springs were a no brainer, passenger side had snapped at the bottom.

They will weaken over time.

If you do change the coils, make sure you get model-specific ones.
Many suppliers list a bog standard replacement for the whole Omega range. My local chap is able to supply such, and has yet to let me down. As you're reasonably local, I'd be happy to help - should you need it. Let me know.

Good of you to offer. I'm lucky as I have the keys to my mates business. Pit, 4 post lift, all the tools etc...and (deep joy) a front strut spring compressor/assembly type thingumy.  Last time I did the job I had to use battered mis-matched old school spring compressors. Now that was an ordeal.
Still dunno what to do about springs though. 96k...what d'ya reckon ?

Personally, if the rest of the car is sound, and you intend keeping it, I'd be inclined to change the coils. I'll get a price and availablity for you tomorrow if you want - let me know fella!

I've just thought, and if you wish (obviously), send me a 'PM' with your contact number - it'd be a lot simpler all round. Confidentiality assured.

I've also got the gear here to do the job, including excellent spring compressors. Also made my own camber gauge ...... !

Another thought - do you know of anyone who has the gear to read-off fault codes? (And do it cheapish?)
My EML has come on, and no-one locally has a compatible diagnostic computer.

I'll check on that. The brother of my mate that has the MOT station/garage owns Kingsbridge Auto Salvage in Gorseinon, Swansea. I'm sure they have something like that to work on the electrics of cars that come in.
I'll try to speak with him tomorrow.

Order by 2pm - delivered next day.
