sticky lifter
« on: 04 July 2008, 22:38:41 »

Hi Guys,

I've got a V6 with a sticky lifter and a have tried the usual short oil changes and this hasn't done a thing.  I tried adding some oil lifter treatment and I still have a sticky lifter.  So having spoken to a few friends about this, one of them said I should try some very runny 5w40 or 0w40 fully synthetic oil as a short oil change.  The other said I should drop the oil and replace with some engine treatment fluids and run at tick over for 20 mins or so.

Do any of you think I should give these a go or should I just live with the problem?  After all it's not causing any running issues.  The car does sound very sweet when the lifter is quiet and puts a smile on my face but as soon as the noise returns it sounds awful.

Thanks in advance

There is a Wynns Valve Lifter treatment which the trade swear by so you could try that.  Its not usually stocked by high street spares places, you'll have to go to a trade outlet/motor factor to get it, also not sure of the exact name, but it's along the lines of what I said above.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.
