Exhaust prices - how much have I been ripped off??
« on: 09 July 2008, 20:33:38 »

Failed MOT today on emissions - leaky exhaust.    :(
Was told I had to replace one side - so agreed.     :-/
One side turned into both sides...                         :'(
Both sides turned into both sides plus back box...  >:(

So how much do you reckon?   :o

Yes, the MOT place did the repairs.
Dunno whether Vaux or copy - should have asked...   :-[
Yes, they had to drill out the old one...   :(

But £300 within £25 or so is close - so I guess not too extortionate then.  :-?

I did get the back section on "Manager's discretionary discount" of 50%  8-)

..is that because they broke the old one..?

300 isn't too bad really.  Unlikely to be genuine but then you would still need to get the GM one fitted.

Yup.   ::)

I paid £325 - but that included the MOT fee and a light bulb.  :-?  Not bad considering the aggro they had replacing it - better their knuckles than mine!  ;D

Just a bit unexpected, that's all.   :(

I need to change my two centre boxes and the back box.
found some from a company called eternal car parts on ebay
cost for all three boxes plus fitting kits is £99.55 + shipping (approx £35)
They say that the are Genuine Vauxhall parts.
Anyone used these people?

..doesn't say genuine on the ebay ad does it :-? (said Tyssen-Krupp on the one I looked at).

For an older car that is only worth a few hundred quid I reckon these and others at a similar price would be worth considering.   But if you are spending 200 quid plus in KF etc , better to go genuine.

I bought one of these £57 delivered to UK Cat back & CW all fittings +£25 to local garage to fit is. Absolutely nothing wrong at all since(despite filling the engine with water a year ago in the floods)
What is so special about a genuine GM exhaust? It is Gold plated? ;)

I think they are double skinned and last a lot longer.  and don't boom like some aftermarket ones.    As I said I think Vx is a no brainer if the alternative is a high street tyre shop where the cost will be about the same.

Perhaps the fact that I have a Traktor eliminates the 'Boom' factor that you mention
It's certainly quiet enough for you not to realise it's a Diesel once heated up
