Coolant loss
« on: 19 July 2008, 16:00:01 »

My car flashed up Coolant Level yesterday so i topped it up and let it run for a while and seemed fine ..... but alas on my way to work today it flashed up again . The coolant was down slightly and there was a dripping from the back of the engine on drivers side but i cant see exactly where from ...... its behind the front wheel area when lying on the ground trying to find it if that helps but i cant get the car up high enough to get right under to pinpoint it .... only drips when running aswell...as soon as the car is turned off it stops ... i know that probaly sounds stupid but it may help point out something .... :'(

if its just water its the air con drain, normal :). if its coolant coolant, pink and slippery sweat taisting, you have a leak, :( check hbv, guide for replacement in guide section to help you find it. get your hand in there and see if its wet. if not it could be in the v , oil cooler cover or t. stat housig.  >:(my hbv leaked according to pressure in the system rather than engine speed as myn would leak with engine off. so may not be that. :-/
post what you find. ta :y

it is a hard find apparently! Do you get leak immediatly on tarting or on pressurasation? Mine also did continue to leak a bit when engine turned off due to pressure in coolant.

Did you have a gander in the maintenance section... very good guide. And also the engive pic which shows the true location of the HBV (pic of engine removed from the car)

I started the car again for a minute or two there and no leak so it must only be on pressurisation but its maybe not hot enough .... when it was leaking before as soon as car turned off it stopped .... yes i did have a look at the how too ....seems a bit of a pig to get too  :-/

Be fine mate. Mine did a few hundred before I could get it done. Just keep an eye on coolant level and your temp guage.  :y :y
