Still trying to put the car back together after head gasket replacememt.

Going OK, just a lot slower than I anticipated (did I really need to strip the heads!). I got a new timing belt from Vx at trade club price (Part No. 9128500) as I am fitting it everything goes well on bank 1



but bank 2 the marks are nowhere near



First of all I think it must be the wrong belt so I count the number of teeth and it's the same number as the Gates I have just takken off. It is fitted the right way round so thats not the problem. Whats wrong?

To add more fuel to the fire I could just make out the timing marks on the Gates belt so I thought well I will just count the number of teeth from the crank mark to sprocket 1 and 2 marks and then on to the  sprocket 3 and 4 marks. Then I find there is one more tooth to the first timing mark on the gates belt than Vx! You can see a white dot on the belt with tippex where I have put the corresponding Gates marks. What's going on?

On the Belt there should be a single line that you start with at the crank, use a mirror to get it right then put the wedge in to hold in place,the lines should then line up.... I have noticed as soon as you tighten the tensioners then turn the crank loads of times to check that the lines don't line up again....
Having said that there was belts that didn't have any lines at all on, so I have seen people using the old belt to copy over the lines to the new one.

Many belts have 2 different coloured lines to deal with different configs.

New belts often come with no markings, therefore it is OK to ignore the lines as long as you fit the belt correctly.

I stand corrected  but they are close together and my eye sight isn't all it used to be

The alignment in the photographs are with the crank mark spot on. Are telling me that a Vx belt won't have the timing marks for all 4 sprockets on the belt? It only has 4 marks plus the double line for the crank on so no multiple markings even in different colours. Can someone check the part number for me and see if this is the right one please? If I don't have any marks for sprockets 3 and 4 how can I know that it's fitted correctly? I am at friends for dinner (wife said she would divorce me if I stayed at home working on the car   so not able to get on line as easily as I would like so appologies if I cannot respond immediately.

2.5/2.6/3.0/3.2 to ENG 08144299 - Part number 90500360
2.5/2.6/3.0/3.2 from ENG 08144300 - Part number 9128500

As Jaime said really as long as you have fitted it correctly and tensioned it correctly and when you have tuened the crank a number of times to make sure the cams are in time you should be ok, as said before alot of the cambelts did not have marks on at all.
