Your motor sounds far too nice to scrap Glenn! PLUS, at 66k it's only just run in!...with the added benefit that you already know the car. Buying a 'new' one for £1200 will inevitably mean you will be spending more money on it and a whole load of other unknowns, at least you know the history of your car.

£95 an hour labour at Vauxhall!?! It must be a very prestigious dealership employing mechanics in Versace overalls! Our local VX is around £45 an hour labour.

I know some members on here buy vehicles specifically with oil cooler failure to fix up and sell on. Looking at that diagram mate, it's got to be worth a go yourself! After all, it's not going anwhere at the moment so you still have to dispose of it meaning hire of trailer/recovery and a load of paperwork which obviously takes time, time better spent having a go at fixing.

....and when you get stuck, post up a thread here and ask some questions, there's no such thing as a stupid question and guaranteed somebody else will be asking the same! To which, the knowledgeable guys on here i'm sure will have the answers.

I agree but instead of scrapping it, you'd be better to offer it for sale here (although I recognise there are restrictions on here about new members listing).  plenty of here here ( me included) could be tempted

I am a new member to the forum. A year ago I bought an ex-Government Omega (2001 2.6 CD Auto) with 56K on the clock. Now 10k miles later it has sprayed oil in the engine bay and the water in the header tank is like slurry.

Garage has told me it is the oil cooler and it will need replacing together with the radiator and all the the hoses. The whole oil and water system will need flushing out.

I've bee quoted an eyewatering £1,200 inc VAT to have all this done. I have also been told that if I went to a local Vauxhall dealer they would charge £95/hour and the cost would be un economic.

Since she is a great car in every respect I am tempted to think - Hell what sort of car can I buy for £1,200 lets do it.

Do you think I am mad and do you feel I may be ripped off by the repair costs?

what was the garage called ROBEM&SCARPER,proprieter D, turpin ??get a real garage quote and keep it

happy to have a look at it for if you like, worth taking
hole car into consideration as to what you do with it,
but it sounds like its to good to scrap for the sake of
a couple of hours work  and a new oil cooler. This is not
un common on the omega and strait forward job.

If you don't fancy it yourself, give DK Cars in Thatcham nr Newbury a call - they may be able to do it  (Vx specialists and used to mainly do Omega's so know them well, also an honest bunch).
