Dear all,

I suspect my aircon high pressure valve (which is near the front battery) is ever so lightly leaking.  So to confirm, I took it to a near by garage and they checked it with a detector and confirmed the leak is only at the valve.

They tried to remove the valve and it's not turning at all. Seem to be very, very tight.  

Can it be removed and changed? or have I got to buy the entire pipe to fix the leak?

Yes the valve can changed but the system needs tobe 'evacuated' first, suggest you find a 'good' aircon specialist, ie maybe not 'Quick-Fit'.

Question, did the valve have a black plastic cap on it?

If it didn't then get one as this is actually the primary seal!

Yes, I do have the black plastic caps on both valves. But they are not full screwed on tight, as one Vx tech guy said if you tighten it fully the middle part of the cap will touch the valve and the gas will escape.
So I had it like 75% tight.

Recently I changed the rocker cover gaskets, As a gengeral check I do go over all the nuts, bolts to make sure they are up to the torque values. Part of this check I might have also over tighten (by hand) the aircon valve black caps.  

Is there a torque value for the caps?

What an idiot that VX mechanic is, of course it wont touch the schrader valve, the bit in the cap is only short.

They do ned to be on to a reasonable finger tightness.

As said, they are the primary seal so need to be on tight!

I'll get it re-gassed and make sure the caps are finger tight and get them to check it again with the gas detector for any leaks.
