Help required
« on: 02 August 2008, 17:05:28 »

Ok need a bit of help guys/girls. To cut a long story short, got a t reg omega elite 2.5 V6 estate that i use to load lug and carry my two boxer dogs around in. Took it to car wash for an interior and exterior job(boxer dog slobber on the seats etc) and prior to me entering the car wash the electric seats on the front drivers seat were working fine. Now all the seat functions work however when bringing the seat forward it will only go along half the rack and i can just about depress the clutch with a fully stretched leg. Is there anything i can do, i`ve checked to see if anything is blocking it, its not, ive used WD40 and nothing, any tips. Whilst the interior was being cleaned the front seat was taken back, however, i went to a nearby newsagents whilst they were doing the car and when i came back the seat would then only go partially back to its original position. The motors are working but will only take the seat "so far"

In desperate need of help as i dont want to take it to a garage just yet. :'(

I'd go back to the place where you had it valeted and demand that they have them fixed.  They've clearly broken the seats so why should you have to fix it?

But it was not like that when you took it there. I do tend to agree with this. They break it.. they sort it. I am sure the vallet cost enough too  :y

psychnurse, you are right but the mechanism works well upto a certain point then stops, surely it cannot be broken, the seats move forward just not all the way?

You shouldn't really need to find out.  The more you tamper with it just now, the more likely they can pass the blame onto you and deny all knowledge if there is a problem.

I couldn't tell you what's wrong with it but it was fine before you went to get it cleaned - so should be brought back to you in the same condition.

tbh, they could just about speak broken english so i dont see myself being very successful in taking it back there as i was able to drive it away-just.

Seeing as it still works( to an extent) i really dont see myself getting much more then a hello from them TBH.

Are you bringing it forward "manually", or relying on a memory preset position ?   If the latter they have reset the memory

This does seem a strange one. If there is nothing blocking it then it is a bit bizzare. Does the motor cut out? or strain in any way?

bringing it forward manually and there is about 2ins of rack still left to cover and it just stops, the motor is still wirring but the seat isnt moving.

Blimey I have have just had what sounds like the same problem..

Do you have a little cranked rod type wrench with yours?   That is used for manual adjustment of the seat.

In my case someone who I won't name put the seat all the way to the back - it never goes there normally and I suspect went past a dry spot on the track.  Then it would move back and forward up to a point, but not all the way forward - mrs ians was not happy.

I could not see anything in the way, but tried the wrench - pretty stiff but got through the stiff point and now works fine , although I haven't tried taking it all the way back again.

Moral may be to fully exercise the movement once in a while.
