Crank sensor part number confusion
« on: 09 August 2008, 12:38:32 »

Hi there

Further to my last thread I'm on the lookout for a crank sensor (among other things).  I've identified i've got the oval connector version and thought I knew which part no. to order.

Looking at ebay bits it seems the old square one is 90492006 and the oval one is 90492061.  I can get either for about 40 quid on ebay including delivery.

However searching some threads here, I found a post which listed the 'early' sensor as 90492006 as above, but the 'later' sensor as 90540743.  So, er, is that the one I need or 90492061?  And anyone know the trade club price for the one I need?

Cheers,

Liam

I bought the oval one very recently - it was cheaper than the square one, around £45 + VAT, i'll dig receipt out.

Oh bums, I think I've gone and ordered the wrong part :-[

Thought I'd done me research but I think I've confused myself.  Ya see I read that bit you posted, rikkiessex...

... and ordered a 90492061, but from a different seller (vauxhall parts werehouse) who had it for £35.  They advertised it as just the oval connector version.

But then I notice this on MarkDTMs FAQ...

Quote
2.5V6 Petrol Earlier Models  90492006  £73.33  yes
2.5V6 Petrol Later Models  90492061  £53.33  yes
2.6/3.0/3.2V6 Petrol Models          90540743  £46.67  yes

Doh - MarkDTM is hardly gonna be wrong is he?:)  So there's two different oval ones, for 2.5 and 3.0, and I got the wrong one?  Or will it fit and work anyway?  Well I guess I'll have to wait and see, and hope I can return it if it's wrong :(

Personally mate I would not buy another Crank Sensor off ebay at all..

If you need the Oval type you will pay £50 from Vauxhall with TC so not worth the trouble in my opinion :y

No no I wasn't suggesting it was your fault!  Should have been 100% before I hit buy-it-now.

RE buying a sensor on Ebay - guess i'll wait and see (if it fits at all).  Anyone had any bad experiences of non genuine crank sensors?  I mean can you really make a VR sensor that actually works and yet is a pile of cheap crap that will fail?  I would have thought it's normally the wiring that breaks down due to routing near hot parts and vibration anyway.  I suppose the whole thing could always be made of recycled kit kat wrappers and crisp packets though.  As I said we'll see.  If this one doesn't fit i'll get the right one from VX.

Cheers guys,

Liam

Liam, I bought a Crank Sensor = 90492061 (the Oval one, which to me looks rectangle but with radius corners) for our 2.5 from ebay.... it had been fitted to the car for less that 7 weeks when it started to breakdown, I then had to wait three weeks with lots of me phoning getting on at them before I actually got my money back. I paid £49 with postage.
I then phoned Vauxhall, with TC the genuine part came to just under £50, which I never had a problem with.
I personally did make the mistake of not checking Vx first as I thought they would have been far more expensive, like probably many other people have thought.....

I think there are only two Crank Sensors for the V6's an Oval and Square. The square being more rectangle to my way of thinking but it has square corners opposed to radius corners, if that makes sense. The square one I believe is around £70....

Hope this helps :y

as long as it is the same as your old one as in oval to oval or square to square it will work fine , i know as i have the same part fitted to mine from ebay and so far it works fine and is made by siemens so will be just as good as bosch i would have thought :y

I've got it now.  Plug is the same, lead length the same, though as yours it's a Siemens rather than a Bosch.  Looks OK to me so hopefully it'll work fine.
