Question About Compatibility
« on: 05 August 2008, 23:22:25 »

Hello,

Haven't been on the site for a while, but I need some advice.

Basically, I have a 52 plate diesel CDX which is a lovely motor - except for the serious frontal damage...

I want to get it running again, and have a kindly mechanic who I can use and abuse.

The question I have is, I have been offered a running 1999 3.0 petrol Omega for next to nothing - the engine on my facelift model is fine, but there are a few major parts other than the actual bodywork I need to change, need to know if the parts are compatible.

The parts I need to (try to!) swap are:

Radiator
Bonnet (I think that this is!)
Air Condenser
Front Panel
Cross member

I'm reckoning that If I can find a motor to take apart it'd be cheaper than buying the parts seperately - and hopefully, I can sell what's left of the older car for pocket money. Or just leave the engine block in my back yard to annoy my better half. Whichever.

Cheers,

Jimbo

The bonnet and bumper are definately different between pre and facelift cars.  The radiators are different part numbers between the 2.2D and the 3.0petrol.  Crossmembers, slam panels, wings etc, you would be better to check out at a friendly dealer with access to the real mccoy software....   ;)

And there was me trying to think of a convincing reason to buy the 3.0 as well. I'll have to be more imaginative...

There is someone on this forum who has transplanted a face lift bonnet onto a pre face lift car. No idea of what's involved but it must be possible.

I would imagine the bonnet is different because of the different lights...likewise with the bumper....or at worst the wings would need swapping too...but then you have a facelift car that looks like its not??

What I was told by a vauxhall dealership (so not sure whether to believe him), was that the bonnet is the same for pre and facelift cars - he claimed it was one of the only body parts not to be changed during the facelift.

Not just a small change either!

Prefacelift flattish - grill attached to car

Facelift huge curve at front which holds the integral grill

Aye... I suspected such, I've only had facelift omegas so hadn't really looked properly at the bonnets on the pre-facelifts.

Now I want to get the V6 and drop it into my facelift in place of the diesel, but I know that I need to be sensible.
There's just something about V6s I love...

As an update - I'm no closer to fixing my diesel, but I bought the v6 anyway for fun.

Mrs Jimbo not impressed.
