backfiring 2.0l 16v
« on: 14 August 2008, 22:22:23 »

recently was forced to change the engine in my newly aquired low mileage 2 litre 16v due to something, never did find out what coming through the side of the block taking with it the crank shaft sensor and the surrounding metalwork.
So i bought what I was assured to be a low mileage omega 2L off ebay, but after travelling over 100 miles to collect it I discovered it was from a vectra. Undetered and broke I had no choice but to attempt to fit it.
New clutch, water pump, timing belt and tensioners later she is in and running.
This is where my problems really started. She refused to rev, instead backfired both down the exhaust and through the inlet manifold.
Read the error codes and amoungst others was the camshaft sensor code.
Changed this for my old one which I know was good and still the same fault, however the car runs sweetly without the sensor connected.
Anyone out there with a larger brain than mine got any ideas as to what the cause could be, Thought it might be something to do with the pulleys so I have swapped them over and no change. want the light out and the car running properly again.
Thanks Chris

Sounds like your cam timing is wrong? What were the other fault codes?

other codes were airflow meter, idle air control voltage, throttle pot sensor. all these were fine before the engine swap, hence i've been concentration on the cam side of things

If it's refusing to rev and is backfiring, look at either a plug lead crossed over, or cam timing...
