Does anyone know what the two middle rubber pipes on the plenum are for?

If u mean at the back of the engine they join and go to the breather box rear drivers side of engine.  Part of breather system.

Yep, the breathers all attached (both large and the single small one) to the breather block at the read of the drivers side head (1-3-5 bank)



And connect to the breather bridge as per this:

Yes it does. To clarify. All the pipes do not go onto the breather block. the two fat ones jou together & go onto the breather block. One of the inner ones also goes onto the breather block. The other thin one goes onto the fuel purge valve. As you stated it does have an electrical connection into it.
The pic from the guide on cleaning the breather sysyem is useful at making sure they are all connected correctly. Thanks Mark

Cheers, that's very useful. I originally asked because I developed a strange idle after the aux belt tensioner disintegrated. Fixed that but then the engine developed a bad idle - almost missing but not quite. I suspected spark plugs, bug first I checked all the vaccum pipes and noticed one not connected, so I wondered if I had plugged the wrong one into the plenum. Anyway, pulled out the suspect one, #3 and it had oil on it which I'd not seen before...

I then had a quick look at the plugs and discovered two of the right hand plugs drowned in oil, so I figured that the cam seal has gone and this is what caused the oil in the plenum pipe. I'm changing the seals now and giving it all a good clean, and I'm going to clean the breathers too. Fingers crossed

Having just completely rebuilt my engine I haven't been able to find the electrical connector that goes into the Fuel Purge Valve, despite searching and searching. I haven't yet started the engine (see my post re. the fuel pump relay) but when I do, will the lack of this connector cause any problems?

It'll run, but it'll put the EML on.

Might be worth getting someone to follow it back to the main loom when they've got one apart. If you know where it exits the loom it'll be easier to find.
