Flickering Engine Management Light(EML)
« on: 18 August 2008, 20:39:09 »

This is a question for the gurus of the 2.5TD engine.

I have noticed on occasions that my EML sometimes flickers or comes on then goes away again. If I explain the 2 variations I have seen.
1, Driving down the road and then brake slowly, the EML flickers for less than one second and everything is fine.
2, Occurs at slightly higher speeds such as the motorway (50-60), EML comes on and no acceleration or constant speed, drop down a gear and everything Ok again.

Paperclip test come back negative.

Car oil changed every 3-3.5k(car due for an oil change this weekend), injector cleaner used every 3 tanks, no coolant loss and just the occasional struggle to start when hot.

Any thoughts would grateful as its somehing that bugs me and usually happens on the motorway which is most disconcerting.

Mine occasionally does this, and I managed to paperclip a lambda sensor related fault code out of it.  Hasn't done it for ages now though...

I'm thinking more along lines of needle sensor (the piezo injector)

96 N reg, do not think it has a MAF sensor being the older type (oil filter is the metal can)

Oops sorry didn't read it was a tractor!  You kind of automatically assume people are talking about proper engines - should have paid more attention :P :P

I was secretly hoping not the pump.  Diesel magic may help, even in temporarily...

Nah, us tractor drivers can't be @r$ed with driving something that gives low 20's mpg, if yer lucky.  You can pipe up again when you get nearer to the low 40's mpg urban driving. Until then...Still tongue, Wise head.  ;D

Slightly off-topic, but injector cleaner every 3 tankfuls? WTF?  Are you talking STP/something similar?  It's supposed to be every 6,000 miles (unless you're getting 2,000 miles to a tank!).
