Hi guys, have just finished changing the wishbones as I cocked them up first time round. Thought I would post some pictures up of the offending items I removed yesterday...

This shows the overall condition of them (note one worse than the other?)





This was the state of the rear bush on the nearside...





... and the rear bush on the offside  





This is the result of not torquing the wishbones up with the vehicle on the ground - causing massive pull under braking and poo camber...





I have fitted some others today and they were identical which is a start, and the bushes looked slightly different so is hopefully an improvement.

Has anyone else had these sort of problems within a year?

I had the reverse of your problem!!!

One of my VSC wishbone bushes failed after 8k miles (few months). The wishbones looked as shabby as yours too.

I bought replacements from buypartsby and they were much better. They lasted about 30k miles before I replaced them before a full geometry job. At that time they were just tired - bushes intact but starting to crack a bit.

Now trying FAI ones......although supplier only sent one FAI wishbone, the other is something else....

Torquing it up off the ground won't affect the rear vertical bush only the front horizontal one. If it is that bad after a year and probably failed earler than that I would suggest fitting this type is false economy. All the more reason to fit Lemforder or change the bushes (in a lemforder/genuine wishbone) for genuine Vx at least until there is an official verdict on the mods that some have tried with the bushes.

QUestion is, what state are your shocks in?

Extra/excessive up down movement is likely to take the rear bush out in that way a bit quicker.

I had not thought about the shocks, I assume they are ok in that they are not leaking or making any noises - I have bounced on the wing and they come straight back up withtout rebounding... anything else I can try on them?

Not really a lot else to test.

But, be aware that shocks generally are pretty worn at 50-60K miles and develop a dead spot. Not an MOT failure or hugely noticeable though.

Looking at the shocks they have some white pen markings on them so I am assuming they have been changed at some point in the past - but not within the last 50k for definate.

Will this affect my WIM setup or should I try and source some new ones before?

Just had new wishbones front and rear (with new bushes obviously etc etc) on my 2003 car.

Cousin owns a garage and fitted them for me, but still pretty darn expensive even with non-Vx parts and on "mates rates".....

Car had done 135,000 miles by this point though....so I'm not too worried.....

However - only noticed them 2 days before MOT was due......so was a little frantic...

Agreed - I'd replace anything remotely worn, and drive it for a few miles to settle (not many) and then get geometry done...
