« on: 23 August 2008, 19:34:49 »

oh shit..here we go again. im loosing water out of the header tank, when i dip the oil its very thin,no gunge tho. filter and oil changed last week. rocker cover gasket changed yesterday. ran fine last night. got up this morning, has lost more water out of the header tank and sounds like a rough diesel. no overheating at all or steam.. :-?
is there anywhere else water can get in the oil ?

maybe fuel is thinning the oil. if its running rough at any point and water is separate issue? have you been through the hbv malarkey?

It sounds very much like HG to me. Thats what mine was doing prior to going altogether.

If you decide to do the head I would recommend if your a capable mechanic to do it yourself. That way you know what parts get fitted and you know it will be done right. I did mine in just over two days. Make sure you get the head skimed though.

Get a compression tester on it before ripping it all apart

It sounds like mega over fueling to me resulting in bore wash and hence the thin oil and noisey engine.

hi mark
is there any easy way to test for over fuelling.  checked the hbv for leaks again today and its bone dry.just a bit puzzled as to where the coolant is going ? im gunna change the oil and filter tomorrow and give her a good run. if i do a paper clip test will it throw owt up that will point to fuelling ?

cheers
