Front or rear?

Front is best on the reinforced bit just in towards the middle of the car from the notched bit where the car jack fits.
Rear is best under the subframe mount.

Make sure you use axle stands too though..

personally, using a trolly jack i use the circular indents under the drivers door hinge. But depends what jack head you have if it will fit in there or not. Obviously if its too small it could go in throug the hole, so be carefull. I dont like using the sil designed for the scissor jack in the boot, it makes a mess. Basically, you need a solid chasis member. And allow for the radious or ark of the jack lift. This can pull the car over a bit if the jack digs in the drive. Use a bit of ply wood or something suitable to allow the wheels to roll in the direction while jacking. It also depends what job your doing so that the stands or jack are not in the way. Hmm, not sure this reply is to usefull but see how you go. Others will advise on doubt.

I haven't had reason to jack up the rear yet although it would be nice to know a have been using the point you say its a job to get both the jack and axil stands under It and I have no intention to work on it until its secure using axil stands.

Jacking front: the cross member under the engine
Jacking rear: tow bar (if fitted) or the subframe mounts

because you will end up bending the boot floor and rear crossmember .

Depends on what jack you have. Ive always lifted cars from the rear diff.

I'm not entirley convinced about that either, although would be nice as it would free up space when placing the stands.  Can anyone else comment.

Never, ever jack Omega from the diff!!! Just check how the diff is connected to the car and you'll see why...

Impossible to damage car by jacking from the towbar, at least with the kind I have (and most Scandinavia has similar). Of course the original GM is different, sorry for being unclear.

Crossmember is safe for sure, solid part of the body. IIRC even TIS recommends the cross member
