 Hi, I went out to my car tonight to make sure she still started as been having starting problems.
  
  I put the key in the door turned it clockwise and as soon as i opened the door the alarm went off. I put the key in the ignition and turned it on and the alarm stopped.

  The engine started ok for a change .

  I switched her off and shut and locked the door to activate the alarm, the centre console dash alarm light flashed for ten seconds then flashed every second or two.

  Tried opening the door again but this again set the alarm off until i turned ignition on.

   Any ideas as to the cause of the fault.

As you are using the key to open the door this is I believe normal ... try using the remote to unlock the door. If it won't work .. new battery then resych the key to the car ...

key in ignition, switch on but don't start, lock, unlock using key buttons, remove key. Then use the key to lock/unlock the door. That should work

   I have got a working remote so will try in the morning now as i don't think the neighbours will appreciate me setting the alarm off at this time of night .

   You say it's normal for the alarm to go off using the key, that seems a bit odd don't you think?

   You say it's designed to be like that then, oh well just have make sure i use the remote.

  At least puts my mind at rest thinking the alarm was fubared.

No worrys, im not the quickest. Yeah, its normal. Usually  people only find out when the battery packs up. Just shows how often the key is used in the lock.

Guys would appreciate your help on my alarm problem.

I am sitting in my office in London and lent my Omega to my wife who is 30 miles away. I have never had an alarm problem for years and that was the siren which I think has been disabled. This alarm sound today is the weedy one you get - yes it was played to me over the phone.

Anyway - I am advised all doors and boot opened and shut but even after locking with key and not with fob - alarm still goes off.

Any suggestions. Oh - she has now gone off in the Signum leaving Omega unlocked so just waiting for the next call!!

usually bonnet switch or p. sounder is the culprit. Either pull or bend the switch up so its more compressed when the bonnet is closed or tape it down or disconnect altogether. You could also try pressing the cabin disarm button on the centre console. If you have kids or pets in the car this stops the cabin sensors setting off the alarm. Press and lock the car within 10 seconds of pressing.
If none of that works, you could disconnect the battery, but its better so source the problem. Make sure you have the radio and cd codes and youll have to reset the sun roof and one touch windows on reconnecting. Hope helps.

Is she using the key in the door? It will go off if so! Use the bliper all should be well.

She did not open and close bonnet - something to do with nail varnish - and yes I am being absolutely serious about that.

Sorry i misread your post slightly. If she is locking the car with the key in the door, that WILL set the alarm off. That is the design! Use the bliper.

It was the siren - probably battery died - now replaced and no problem. All codes pointed to that. Replaced whole unit - bit pricey but needed to sort quickly.

Next job is cambelt kit etc - dealer quote is £360 - 2500 miles to go to 80,000.

The part was £55 incl VAT and the same to Tech 2 and fit etc. The fact they had one in stock swung it. The parts are made in Australia for some reason - including the original

While I appreciate how expensive a Tech II is to buy & maintain I do think the charges made by Vauxhall for their use of it is verging on the extortionate. If it tok the opperator 10 minutes to talk to the new power sounder I'd be very surprised but that would still be over £500 an hour for its use.
