Coolant Indicator/Warning.
« on: 06 September 2008, 14:11:02 »

3.0 Elite, I have noticed a water loss.  Last trip out was a day to the coast, all levels ok, 175 miles day out, coolent level indicator came on after 150 miles on the days trip.

Cars been stood about 5 weeks since with out being topped up.  Checked the level last night and could still see water in the bottom of the header tank, so I reckon maybe about 2" lost.

All topped up off I went, warning had gone, 20 mins later the warning illuminated again.

After reading threads over the months I am guessing I have a sticky level sensor.

Can I clean it, check, remove/replace.  Cant remember the remedies on the other threads.

Will be planning a timming belt change soon, so water pump and HBV will be changed at same time, so if any fush's are recommended prior to these jobs then would it also help sort any gunk/scale on the sensor.

TIA  :y

Mine had a short term revival by soaking it all in a caustic solution. Really the best bet is a new one ... around £30 IIRC & it'll looks nice too!  ;)  :y

Couldn't be easier. Once the various hoses are removed there's just a 'hair grip' type of clip on the wing side of the bottle, once removed the bottle slides slightly towards the engine and ......that's it!  :y

I might be wrong but surely a sticky sensor would not actually cause coolant loss, if it is loosing coolant and the level is dropping then the sensor is doing it's job and working correctly

I totally agree Jimmas.  Have not yet rechecked the water level, but the warning came back on quickly.

As I say, I have to get the cam belt changed, will sort the water pump also, might as well illiminate the HBV, maybe the warning sensor is something and nothing, but will check the level evey time before a journey and when totally cold.

Am I getting confused.

I mention the HBV (Heater Bypass valve ?)

This thread meantions the HCV (Heater Control Valve ?)

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1220815453

Are them the same thing or completely different?  When I first read a mention of the HBV there the same picture.

Is the 2 of them, or 1 but ofen decribed as one or th other ( HBV/HCV)

TIA.  :y  Sorry for sound daft. :-/ :-[
