Stuck Sunroof on pre facelift CDX
« on: 09 September 2008, 15:41:35 »

Today I changed the sunroof motor for one I bought on fleabay a couple of months ago. (no guarantee I know!).

I noticed that there were no spline teeth visible in the hole through which the motor fits and wondered if this was normal.

I have tried resetting it all to the closed position and open position, and still no banana.

Any ideas on the inner workings of the sunroof?

if they are like the senator ones the gear on the motor drives directly onto the cables if i remember correctly, in the haynes manual it has a little bit about it & how to set it up, is your motor spinning o,k? what was the original problem?,perhaps it is the switch as mine played up a little when i first got it. rather that than worn cables as they can be a fun job :P

the motors are fine I think, both of them.  What I saw was that the hole that they locate in does not have any teeth or any for of engagement, which I suppose if its cable driven might be broken or lost in the cavity.

I'm debating whether to have the headlining out to have a fumble, i'm not really that bothered as I have the aircon once the condenser is replaced, but it's just nice if it works!

right SEV, Ive just had a look at mine, if you look in the runners from front to back on the inner side edge, you will see the cables they are an off white felt with steel twsted along them [corkscrew sort of pattern], to get them out you have to take the wind deflector off for a start, im not sure if anything else is to come off under that, if you have to replace them you want the motor out, looking inside the roof there should be a metal block which will have to be separated from the roof itself [10mm nut in the senators] you should then be able to draw the cables out by pulling them complete with the blocks on the ends, if its anything like the senator cables they are different lengths [not sure why],& when you fit the new ones get them even both sides, anyhow like i say im basing this on senator ones ive done in the past & at first look it looks pretty much the same, anyhow DONT take the roof lining out as you wont see anything there, i thought you may have noticed the motor sounding like its slipping before it went totally as that is the warning sign, perhaps somebody else might pop up with a suggestion for you as ive only done them on senators & monzas but it does sound like cables to me.,,,,good luck :y

just read back what ive put,i should have said that the metal blocks are on both cables & you will find them on the runners towards the back of the sunroof itself, [aint it hard trying to explain things sometimes!]

thanks tim, i'll look at that.

I'll get my mirror out and have a mooch when the next break in the crap weather arrives.

I suspected it was something along those lines, as when I stuck my finger in the hole, there was nothing - so I suspect the motor is just spinning in free air!

If they are snapped - they can stay snapped! smells like major grief to get that sorted.  I'm going to nip over to the VX dealer to get the diagram for the assembly, and then I'll have a better picture of whats potentially going on.

When I do, I'll put the picture up for all to see.
