Hi All, after a long working week and most of last weekend out with the omega thought i would give you all an update on my problem. Dismantled everything to change cam cover gaskets, job done, far more work involved than working on my cossie, but its done now. Changed leads and plugs, still not firing on two cylinders, a mate of a mate put his diag on it and he is 99.9% sure its the coil pack :(. I am all geared up to do it tomorrow morning. Can anyone offer any help or advice changing it. i know its a nightmare of a job getting to it, any help would be greatly appreciated ;)

Removing the wiper arms & the scuttle under the screen should just about give you enough room to replace the DIS. Although I had Torx drive sockets, they were 3/8" drive & the body was too big to clear the DIS pack before the spline bit of the socket engaged with the bolt, so I used a 1/4" ordinary hex socket (can't now remember the size .. 8mm?) The first time you see the DIS is when you've removed the last of the 4 bolts.
Open box of plasters and apply as neccesary!  ;D  ;D

I think the best tip would be to be prepared to climb into the engine bay on top of the plenum. Put something soft on there. It helps no end.

Got a set of these leads from Fleabay, They were generally the right lengths, number 6 lead the shortest was only an inch longer, better than the set i had before which was around 9 inches longer and had to tuck away.

Andy B, 4 bolts? is that to secure the dis pack? or hold the engine in place ;D. I was actually thinking of re-locating it somewhere else if the leads would reach. I have a large box of plasters on standby, my mate don't wanna know and my brother in law (also a mechanic) aint interested so i know what i am letting myself in for :o

Just the 4 M6 Torx headed bolts about 2" long. I'd leave it where Vx put it, it's unlikely you'll need to change it again .... you might be able to move it as far as the HT leads are concerned, but what about the 'LT' side. I doubt the loom is long enough to move the DIS very far.

oops forgot about the Lt loom, best leaving it where it is then ::) Thanks for the info M6 torx bolts, need to get a set early tomorrow morning. 1/4" drive sound good to me, and also maybe a small child to get their arms behind the engine and do it for me ;D. Well am off now will let you know tomorrow how it went(or is going :o)

Looks like i will be starting mine on Monday as well.
Taking the 'pack' out before buying new to make sure I get the right one.
Are the leads testable with a meter?

Ho Hum.
