abs ecu intermittent fault

hi all. need to pick your brains for a little while. have a slightly annoying fault on the abs ecu. the fault only happens once the engine gets upto running temp then comes and goes at will. have dis/re-conected ecu but faults is still there. any body got any ideas.

Do you mean ABS & TC lights come on? Is speedo still working at the time they're on?

Suggest this is a knackered ABS ECU - it won't get any better only worse!  Search for ABS ECU - there's lots of help/comment on here.

lose speedo, cruise, tc,abs and power steering at same time. it only started recently when i fitted new alternator. vx think i disturbed somthing whilst disconnecting battery but want to charge fortunes to fix it. always like to get a second opinion where vx dealers are concerned tho.

Hi Kris,

That happened to mine when I used jump leads once.  Vx will charge a fortune for a new ABS ECU.  

However there's a company in Kent that will rebuild them for around £130 if my memory serves me right.  The downside is that it takes the car off the road for a few days as you have to take it out and post it off to them, but thats better than the ££££££££££'s that Vx will happily charge......

Can't remember what the company is called offhand, but a search on here should uncover it, if you have no joy get back to me and I'll go through my receipts.

Other option is to buy second hand one (I paid about £40 for one).  Best to get one off exactly same year & model as yours else will require reprogging with Tech2.

Confirm you will lose anything "speed related" - thats power steering + cruise.

Give bba-reman a ring .. they sorted mine out.. couriered the knackered one to them on Monday, they rang with the test results and a price for fixing Wednesday, after giving the go-ahead the unit arrived back on the Friday

That was 15 months ago, cost was £130 ... well impressed  :y :y

i have problem with my omega also,x20xev.
abs light come on ,but  speedo and cruise is working.All working but light is on.Today i will go to opel service  :(

The common ABS fault only seems to affect 1998 and later cars. As yours is a 1997, I would get a tester plugged in and go from there.

Most likely to be a front wheel sensor at a guess.

As a general thing, having now taken one of these faulty modules apart, I can not see much that could be serviced on them as the main PCB is a true hybrid so pretty much un-touchable!.

There are two relays that might be an issue plus a load of welded type contacts which have also been known to be problematic.

So, if anybody has a failed unit I would like to try a repair on one of these (the original one I have has been sacrificed to get this far!)

On a 1996 2.0l which tech2 said ECU failed, I managed to get it working (as a temp fix) by taping relays with screwdriver handle.  As far as I know, it lasted some time, probably still is OK.  So sticky relays does sound a possibility.

From memory, think it was Nixoro's car, so if he is still around to comment?
