Exhaust leak
« on: 22 September 2008, 19:29:08 »

Once again i have to post due to a problem with my beloved omega :( There is a funny noise coming from the main block, sort of like a mild popping sound. My friend seems to think its the gasket gone on the manifold that connects the exhaust to the engine but i dunno.

Anyone have any ideas? Its worse when i 1st fire up the car and gets louder when i accelerate. If it is the gasket, how easy it is to replace?

Thanks

They can be done with the engine in the car but it's not easy, you have to release the front pipes  and the engine mounts then jack the engine up just enough to get at the nuts, use plenty of release oil NOT WD40 find plus gas or similar and use vauxhall gaskets not after market parts.

drivers side (UK) gasket is long job (you will have trouble with water pipe going back of the engine) in place but can be done..

passenger side you need to take out the engine mount(s) and turn(shift) the engine to reach..
