ABS/TC ECU Change

Ok so got a new car (Black 98 3.0v6 Elite Estate)...have fixed a couple of minor issues (one tailgate strut failed, coolant level sensor failed, MID bulb swap rather than bother changing bulbs lol) got a bit more to do although as I can get all parts free I guess it doesnt matter lol

So ABS/TC ECU needs changing as both lights on and no speedo...6 torx bolts right...but where are they?? I have the replacement unit here which is already out of the car and came from a 3.0 98 elite with all the same stuff, satnav, Bose, HID, 16" alloys so should be a straight swap I believe...

Anyone got a diagram showing the bolts needing removal?

Cheers Dazzler mate...will have to see whats what on the unit thats out first I think...got 2 so if one goes wrong I have a reserve lol

Ok sorted the tools I think I need...so basically its just the 6 torx screws...but you have to remove anything that gets in the way of getting the screws out...

Had a look...top hose, yes clearly needs removing...cant really see why anything else would though...or is it just to aid access?? I have small hands and a small toolkit...still need to remove half the world?

I dont remove the top hose, I just re-position the power steering fluid reservoir, remove the battery and unplug the multiplugs by the battery.

Any residual power in the unit that can cause ECU problems...i.e. should I wait a few after disconnecting battery before starting work?

Just taken the replacement ecu off...very easy to do...so trickyness of this job is simply access to the bolts and plug it seems...

Battery removal, unscrewing the wiring loom sections and the undoing the 10mm bolt that holds the fluid reservoir wont take long...so other than fiddly cant see how this can take more than 30 mins?? That sound about right TB?

When i done mine just removed top hose.  Access tight but doable with right kit.

Ok pretty much done...wow not THATS a fiddly job! lol

Really soooo simple but getting the 6 screws out and back in...really not straight forward, just a good thing I have small hands :) Few hours in the end and put it back together with 3 of the screws missing (anyone know if all 6 screws are essential??) and its worked, have no warning lights staying lit, ECU warning light no longer flickering and speedo working now...just gotta see if I need to put back the remaining 3 screws or not lol

P.S. No prizes for guessing which ones are missing currently...

I got 5 screws back in - left out bottom right looking from front.  Would have thought important ones are the top 4.

Struggling with the bottom 2 and the rear middle one...but only because I wanted to be sure the change of ECU actually fixed the problem before carrying on to find it was still 'dangle berries'ed...plus it was very securely on with just the 3 anyway and held on at the bottom by the cable/plug :)
