Erratic Temperature Gauge Reading
« on: 26 September 2008, 13:38:41 »

Dash panel temperature gauge is giving very erratic readings..when started from cold gauge doesn,t move and may stay like this for hour or more..then for no reason registers correct ??temperature of mid point..that may last for some time and then drops back to bottom of gauge.Never goes above mid point and has no pattern.
Does this sound like a new sender unit in engine is required ?as can,t see the electrics in the gauge are faulty as it does work.

check the wire is on sender properly.

Also seen this if dash isn't fully seated.

Is it plenum off to get to the wire ?Doubt if problem with dash as nothing has been touched and has been working for ages..it is just in the last couple of days ...tonight drove 100+miles and gauge didn,t move at all.Pulled onto drive and then gauge registered normal mid point?Thought it might be the death throws of the sender unit?

Thanks TB..will see what I can reach with scuttle removed and take it from there.Do the senders just fail or could it be just starting to die,as if I am in that area, for the replacement cost might just fit a new one.

Hi ,
It could be the sender , or it could 0be the wire that has started to break down. Last time i did my breathers i found that the sender looked a little worse for wear and the wire was a little crudded up, I would say that a novice will have it done in around an hour and a half i thnk from recolection it was on the left hand side of the block.
Hope this  helps.

More likely the connector needs a clean, or the wire to spade connection is naff

For the couple of ££,s a new sender unit is I will buy one and clean up the spade connector and when I source the part numbers and get the 2 small breather pipes will do it all in one go.VX are still unable to give me the part numbers for them so can,t get ordered.
Both small thin pipes from Ecotec breather box??any ideas
