Hi Guys

             on my way to Frimley Green last week, 70mph along M25 , just before A3 junction, sudden smell of coolant inside car, followed by "Coolant Level " warning and the temp. gauge rising rapidly.

Pulled over, lifted bonnet,  was dismayed to see the top rubber coolant hose going to bulkhead (Heater Matrix pipe) was off of the metal pipe. There by most of the coolant had been dumped out on to engine & engine bay.

I pushed the self locking type rubber pipe back on  & it seemed to be fixed really firmly. So much in fact I could not get it come back off.

luck would have it  I had  a 6 x 1.5 litre pack of evian water in the boot & proceeded to re-fill the system.

Drove rest of way to frimley green & then to Gatwick  without any problems at all. returning from holiday yesterday, drove all the way home to Southend from Gatwick without a hitch. Gauge reading a steady 92  Have not used any or lost any  morecoolant....   So I'm Baffled :-/ :-/ :-? :-? :-?

Any ideas?

topped mine up once from the lake i was going fish at, rad sprung a leak on the way there, so done my fishing,topped up & home but on a serious note filling a hot engine with cold water can do damage, seen heads cracked & warped doing this.

still bottled water only cos carbonated may cause an air lock (similar to human bodily term of trapped wind)

Get some red antifreeze in there soonest ... not against ice ... but against corrosion... miggies need 50/50 mix at all times ..

if it just happened once, wonder if it had just worked loose?  Never seen it before though...

I cracked the block in my Cortina years ago doing it!

Only happened the once TB.  Have now flushed & re-filled with 50 / 50 GM "Pink" antifreeze.Everything running OK.
 Seemed strange that this pipe came off 60 miles into a trip and is OK now it has been pushed back on. :-/ :-/ :-/

Was the collar on the fast fit connector pushed towards the bulk had.

Possible its been removed before and not fitted properly?

I Think this was probably the case. I did have both heater pipes off to flush out matrix, but that was 2 years ago when i first got the car.
It had been running fine up until this recent coolant loss / pipe off incident.
