HI I,m new to this forum but I can help with this one.  You can remove the ignition barrel without removing the steering wheel, first you have to remove the shroud then using a bent wire about 20mm bent end stiff but not too large locate the release hole in the alloy housing (haynes manual will poss help to identify) put key in the barrel and turn whilst depressing pin through release hole, barrel should pop out. It's a little tricky but can be done. If you stip barrel and clean parts and grease lightly (I used silicone) & rebuild you may find when key is in the barrel some of the brass fingers are not pulled back into line with the barrel this is what stops it turning. if you file these so they are smooth you should have no further trouble till it wears again. refitting you just push it back into the housing until it clicks into place. but ensure you push the locking pin back thats inside the housing before push the barrel in. As long as you can turn the steering wheel (ie steering lock off) you should be able to remove the shrouds.

Get this sorted soon as if you can't get the key to turn you will have all sorts of much bigger problems.
