 hi to u all
  last year i re-placed my hand brake cable for mot .. all was well but now it travels further up and i have adjusted it under neath but still dodgey,  
  i think the rear plate that them little pins go through might have rusted making the hole bigger .
  can u buy new rear plates as my mot is coming round again  and any body knows the price !!

Its far easier to just use a special washer on the back

Have you adjusted the shoes themselves??

i have tried but the drums will not come off but will freely turn ??  i think that the shoes have worked loose or slipped !!   as if i put the hand brake on the car can drive in reverse but not go forward .  u said about a special washer what do these look like ??

Hi Mick,
          The clip Dazzler is referring to is the one marked by the yellow arrow in the picture below and should be available from any motor factors or make one yourself from a suitable washer then attach to the back plate by pushing the pin right through and turning it in the washer, but first clean up any rough edges so the washer lays flat .

   You say you are having trouble removing the drum, firstly i take it you have removed the allen key retaining bolt? and if so then turn the drum until the hole in the face is at the 12 o'clock position and back off the adjuster with a screwdriver then try gentle tapping the drum on one side at a time whilst gentle pulling it off .

      

           Hope this helps as i had the same trouble recently.

iv just had to tighten my handbrake cable and now it seems to be holding good for now lol

Did you do as per teh guide before doing this?

If so....you will shortly suffer poor handbrake operation  

I will be doing mine this week before its MOT on Saturday AM

i just tighten the bolt up on that braket half way down the body under the prop

I've just printed a copy of the guide off, will be doing it over the next couple of weeks as my MOT is due at the end of the month.

Incidentally Mark, how long would you estimate each side takes to do??

takes me sub 2 hours to do the lot......and thats a full strip down, clean, re-assemble and adjust.

So ..... that's about a morning for us mere mortals.  I seem to remember you took about half TIS's time to do cbs's exhaust manifold gasket in the middle of a field.

Printed that one earlier on today after reading through this thread. Just need a dry at the weekend to do it now.

Do you have to slacken the handbrake cable to get the rear discs off
