Wipers return to wrong position, halfway across..
« on: 01 October 2008, 22:00:58 »

Happened recently after using wipers on full speed during some very heavy rain. Got home and turned the ignition off and the wipers were half way accross the window. Their limits are correct, ie the full motion sweep is still perfect, but they always return the the incorrect position.

I've had to raise the seat to see safely past them.

Anyone know of a limit microswitch that can be adjusted, or a reset procedure for them?

Take the whole mechanism out. From the motor to the actuall mechaism is a plate that converts the rotary motion of the motor to the back & forward motion of the arms. There is an M8 nut that's come lose & needs aligning back up again. there are 2 v's that need to point to each other >< You'll see when you take it all out. :y

With thanks, all is sorted.

to clarify, upon removing all 4 mounting screws and withdrawing the motor assembly sideways towards the drivers side wing, a 2" long link arm attaches to the motor gear drive, the 13mm nut had worked a little loose and under strain occasionally the little link arm slipped position. Where the link arm passes the rest of the bracket there are two V shapes, the arm should be loosened, and repositioned between those two marks. Tighten and refit, all perfect.

I know this is an OLD post, but has anyone got any pictures of what i'm looking for - as I have gone through two motors & linkage, and now the current one has done exactly the same thing, I removed and fitted myself, and been working fine for 3 months, and now exactly the same, stops half way up windscreen - doesn't return to the bottom.

Regards

This one is from an Astra, but the principle is the same.

The 13 mm nut that's holding the arm in position has come loose. On the casting is a mark that looks like 'A' .... there's another on the other side but pointing towards us. the arm should park between the two, but yours is parking somewhere else because the nut isn't holding the arm on its spindle.
You need to remove the nut, position the arm correctly & use a little thread lock on the nut when you replace it (or use a Nylock if you have one)

I first did this job (11/12/13) years ago when SWMBO came home in the rain with the wipers parked halfway across the screen of my Senator! So it's a problem not just common to Omegas.  ;)

Had the same issue on the Estate - followed Robs pics in his link - fixed and ok since.
Didn't remove mine - just wipers off, scuttle off, align and tighten nut, reassemble - pics a great help - 20 - 30 minute job max :y
