Misty windows
« on: 06 October 2008, 19:39:48 »

This morning (05:15) when I went outside to the car, all windows had dew on the outside which I cleaned off. I got in and the inside was misted up so I started up and put the blowers on full blast with front & rear heated windows. After a few minutes they cleared nicely ...... but after a short while they misted up again and for the next 50 miles I had to have the blowers on to keep the windscreen clear. I know I've got to have the A/C re-gassed, but I checked for leaks and have found none. The carpets are dry cos I cleaned out the tubes (whatever they are called that blocked with leaves). Has anyone got any ideas? what settings should i set the heater controls to? appreciate any help. TIA

Is pollen filter dry?

Also check exhaust vents - in boot, right hand side, little cubby hole. People fill it with crap which prevents airflow.

I am not sure if you have aircon or climate , I have mine on Auto setting set at approx 22 and have no problems .
If you have the air con on and turn it off when the windows clear in my experience the windowsw very quicly mist up again  :y

Well its not easy by torchlight, but it felt dry. When I got back indoors my hand was really black so I presume its dirty. For the sake of a fiver or so I'll just change it, the cars probably never had a replacement.

Would it hurt to whip it out tonight and replace tomorrow PM when I get home from work?

What exactly does the auto button do, all it seams to do turn the fans up to full :S so i keep mine of the "face" air vents setting.

No it wont hurt it's held in with two clips  but BE CAREFUL they are fragile, also while your there have a look in the bottom of the space to make sure the drain in the bottom isn't blocked up with leaves and other crud.

The manual says:
Air recirculation system
The a ir recirculation system prevents the
entry of outside air and the air in the
passenger compartment is circulated.
Automatic a ir circulation mode 3
Press button t briefly twice within one
second. t appears on the d isplay .
Air circulation is automatically activated as
soon as the system detects polluting gases
from the outside air. The circuit is
controlled by an air quality sensor.
To deactivate electronic a ir circulation:
press button t again.
At outside temperatures below 5 °C the
duration of the air circulation mode is
limited. This prevents the windows from
misting up. Switch to manual air circulation
as necessary.

In your dreams!

Around £11 + VAT tradeclub. Being facelift, it must be the more expensive carbon type, not the cheaper ones for prefacelift.
