Water in Rear Passenger Footwell

For the first time in 3 years of owning it, got water in the rear passenger footwell.

I noticed it because the rear window was completely misted up, which it has never done so before.

Now before you all scream scuttle drain, thats been checked. Every time i do an oil change (every 3 months) i check it, and i just went out to the car now and but 1.5L straight through it, just poured straight through no issues.

Inspected door seals, they look ok. The front passenger footwell feels dry to me although Jaime reckoned it had a slight dampness to it.

And it comments show the exact same leak in the exact same position, just where the plastic grip thing is for the mats.

The only thing it could be is i do run a power line for my sub through the grommet on the passenger side, BUT thats been there for 3 years, and this is the first time this problem has occured.

All other footwells are dry, Jaime very kindly lent me a dehumidifier which i will leave running in the car overnight.

If the scuttle was in anyway to blame, i would expect the FRONT footwell to be wet, my driveway slopes down, so i would expect water to flow to the front. I park in a railway station during the day, which is also flat.

Only other thing could be a rust hole is the chassis?  :'( :'(

Should add its a Saloon, and no oven cooker glass (sunroof)

Been pondering it...  ...I'm thinking doorseal again  :-/

The water thats there has been there a while, so finding where it came in is difficult at night.

I reckon remove plastic trim, get a hose on it it, and see what happens is best solution I can come up with.

Its the only thing it can be, i just poured 1.5L straight down the scuttle drain, but it went straight out. Prob not the best thing to do with the car sat in the garage  ::)

I think it was that heavy rain we had a few weeks back, in combination with the rear exhaust vent being slighly blocked.

Will have to wait till i get back, but at least the weather looks good for the weekend.

had any passengers lately? maybe left the door partly shut/on the latch if you know what i mean? :-/

That was an idea, but not had any passengers recently. I would also notice the wind noise...

I have got exactly the same problem for the last six months. i keep the scuttle clean, door seals look ok and the front is dry. i still cant find where it is getting in

Do you need the VAX to dry carpets - dug it out anyway - or did dehumidifyer do it?

I need to pop around later to nick a small part from Mother Tunnie's car ::)

Stripped a 97 elite estate with this problem recently...didnt need to find out why it was happening but would be interesting to hear if you find out why...

No i know you dont, but the above procedure closes the door  more firmly against the seal. Just in case its coming in that way. Perhaps a spray of silicone around the rubber seal then close the door on it to see if it marks and is therefor touching/sealing all the way round. If it is, probably not worth bothering adjusting the door catch to close tighter.  Also mate of mines bmw had a similar sort of problem with a door membrane filling with water in the door. Then, when not raining and you open the door it poors out. No idea if the mig has such a thing in the door card, but on the bm it stops the water running down the window seal through the door and into the car. Just a thought.

Good idea, i could use talcum power instead?  put it all over the seal on the car, and see if it comes off on the door.

Yes will need it thanks, hopefully get most of it dry. As mentioned the dehumifier got hardly anything out, it was still on in the morning. But there was barley anything, not even enough to cover the bottom.

Guess thats good in a way!
