Gearbox problems ??
« on: 28 August 2008, 11:14:04 »

I bought a 2002 automatic omega with 26k mileage about 3 weeks ago, but i have noticed the gear changes on this car is not as smooth as my older car a 99 omega v6 with automatic gearbox. You can hear the gears changing sometimes......

Also when i get to a roundabout or traffic light and i stop, when i try to drive off the is simply no power and the car revs like its on neutral or parking, then power just comes back and it drives normally, this takes a second or two and even if i was carrying a passenger they would not notice.... This does not always happen...most of the time it just drives normally.

I thinks there is a problem some where, but don't know where to look, also, no dashboard lights come on to indicate a problem....

I am thinking of having a tech2 technician update the engine and gearbox software, can this be of any help ?

Any opinion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The tech 2 update makes one hell of a difference to the gear changing, but it sounds to me asthough you have a problem. Have you checked the gearbox oil level (ATF)?

Despite the low miles I would do a complete fluid change/filter clean or replace.

Well I was referring to the autobox specifically,  but obviously you should consider the other service items to if history unknown or if due.

When this happens, do the gear selector lights all light up? If so, it could be the selector switch playing up.

I will take it to alocal garage for them to change the gear box fluids and filter, if problem goes well and good. otherwise a software update will be next...
