2.2 petrol autobox in a 2.5 TD?
« on: 11 October 2008, 16:01:17 »

Hi, can you tell me if I can use the auto box from a (51)2.2 petrol in a (S) 2.5 TD auto? The 2.5 has a gearbox fault and the 2.2's engine is dead. Thanks

Yes, but you need to use TD's original bellhousing and torque convertor

if you fit that box don' chip your engine as the bmw engine is downrated for the reason of protecting the auto box. the best auto box ar35.

they do a direct swap 3.0 bmw engine that bolts onto the omega gearbox. but you'd need the bellhousing off the td and put it on an ar35 :P quite fancy doin this lol

correct!! :( i believe the figure was around 91 from installing chip to changing melted sludgepump for ar35, actually drove the car couple of days ago(mate of mine bought it and loves it!!) and it drives very nicely and his average fuel consumpton according to mid is 48.2 :y

My MID reckons high 30s :y - reality for last 2 months or so has been much less, but hopefully resolved now.

would have agreed with you but we found out on the way back from Marham that the sludgepump is a lot slower than the manual ;D although when it has climbed up there it does hang on quite well at speeds over 3 figures for approx 9 miles :y however the acceleration is just not there at any part of the rev range although he tried the auto
just cannot live with the manual, had a lot of fun though!!! :y
