oil leak help
« on: 16 October 2008, 00:53:05 »

Hi all
Just joined this forum , wanting advice.
recently bought omega 2.5 and love it but there does seem to be a slight oil leak near bottom pulley on front of engine . i assume this is big end . could you please tell me if this is major problem? will it get worse? price for fixing? other than this it is perfect, every service .It's a 2000 model with 115000 on the clock.
Got to be one of my favourites .

hi Andy, a warm welcome to you. Sounds like crank seal, but make sure its not running down from cam covers, much more common on v6. Sometimes the cam belt cover can hide the oil running down from higher up. Maybe someone whos done a crank seal can help...

Chris is right - I had a noticeable oil leak on my X20XEV which seemed to be coming from the crank (oil pump) seal.  I routinely replaced all the oil seals during a recent rebuild and found that the oil was actually coming from both camshaft oil seals which had all but disintegrated.  I changed the crank seal anyway.
