Do you know when the spark plugs and fuel filter were last done? I let mine do their 40k and the car definitely felt a bit more eager when I changed them. To be fair they had been fitted since 2002 as the previous owner didn't do many miles. 40k for me is a year and a bit so I'm letting everything run to its scheduled interval except oil and filter, they get done every 3k.

Oh, and if you haven't got leaky cam covers yet you could blank off the EGR valve before it lets too much gunge into your breathers, then you might never have to change the cam cover gaskets! Sure there's a few posts on here about how to do that but basically cut a coke can to the shape of the gasket sandwiched in between the two halves of the EGR.

Another job that might be worth doing soon is the auto box fluid, filter and gaskets. Well worth keeping the gearbox happy on these.

Clean the breathers - costs nowt (well, some carb cleaner) and will save your camcovers.

also the drain on the passenger side (next to the pollen filter) - check its clear.

Are the doors cracking (sound) when you open them?  Replace the little white washer for 20p

Oo, what washer is that? Mine aren't but might do it anyway.

Thanks for the info guys.I checked out maintainance guides but was unsure what needed doing first.I will be doing oil/filter change this weekend, checked oil level and the previous owners, who thought the blown exhaust was  because the car was powerful with a throaty growl, appear to have stuck half the middle easts oil production in it.Will this have blown crankcase oil seals and are the breathers worth doing now because I can't do seals this weekend, how hard are they to do?.

They are still worth doing, and yes they are straightforward to do!! :y

Indeed they are easier to do than replacing the cam cover gaskets, which you will end up doing if you do not clean out the oil breather system. ::) ::)
