Two things....
« on: 06 October 2008, 05:47:29 »

Hi there,

can anyone assist me with the following questions?

Am looking at a 2001 Omega MV6 auto with the 2.6 engine.

What MPG do they return on average? I know it depends on my right foot but some sites (ie Parkers) say it's about 24mpg.

Also as it was registered on the 15th of March '01, so would I be right in thinking I'll be paying stupid amounts in tax in a couple of years?!?!

Cheers

Hi mate, based on a 2.5 24-27mpg is probably rightish around town...on motorway its more like 32-35mpg...

And yes March 1st 01 onwards (Y Reg) and your looking at the £400 a year tax probably for the 2.6, get yourself an X reg :)

Hi Mutant, cheers for the reply. At the moment I'm driving a MG ZS v6 which is returning about 29 mpg combined and I think to dropping to 24mpg would be a bit much. Was hoping someone experienced would tell me Parkers was wrong!! As for the tax thing, that really sucks as from what I gather it was registered 15 days after the cut off!!! Such a shame as I the car was ideal and it was going to be pretty much a straight swop for the 2 cars as he needed less space and I need more!!!  :(

If you hear if a facelift MV6 estate or elite v6 for sale let me know!  ;)

Trouble is, what is your combined cycle.....one of mine does masses of stop start driving and gets 26-28mpg.

The other does careful motorway runs (500 miles per week) and is retrning 38mpg!

Plus auto will be worse....

I would expect the Omega to use a bit more fuel than the MG as its much bigger and heavier.  All the MGs were manual, weren't they? An auto will usually return a lower mpg.

Yeah, the MG is a manual. I was expecting the MPG to be worse on the Omega auto but not sure if I can drop to mpg that low, along with it being in the higher tax bracket too. Such a shame as it's just what I'm looking for.

My 2.6 auto is showing just over 30 at the moment, mixed use but more motorway than heavy traffic.

Obviously depends on your driving, but I get 25mpg day to day and 30+mpg on a run from my 3.0l auto...

Well I said Bo***cks to it, as the bloke wanted to do a straight swap for my MG ZS and am now the proud owner of a 2.6 MV6 auto estate. Loving all the space, it's ideal for slinging all my ice hockey gear in, and its a nice laid back cruiser. Now all I have to do is get rid of my Honda Prelude VTi......

back to the topic.. should return around 22-26 in town depending how much right boot you use lol and anywhere from 33-38 on the motorway... depends quite a bit on the speed (revs) as over 3thou revs it drops quite alot and below 2 n a half-3 it's quite good

Dunno. Might be worth keeping an eye on the MG forums for a while...  ;D

Why didn't you swap, out of interest?

i was selling the car to pay the finance off so i could buy this car i have now - saving myself £178 a month - swapping and not being able to pay the finance off would put me in the same boat!
