Hi, i have been putting off getting some replacement cam cover gaskets for weeks now and i think i am now paying the price. this morning on my way to work i had smoke coming out from my bonnet. My first question is where can i get a all the replacement bits in a hurry but without paying a huge cost cos i am broke, i tried looking on the site shop but they have been out of stock for a while. And my second question is does anyone know anyone who could do this work for me which i would obviously pay for.
Sorry to ask for so much but hopefully someone my take pity on me

Check to see whether both sides are at fault.  You may only need to replace one side - half the price  

As other people have echoed on the topic before - Genuine VX gaskets are the only way to go if you don't want to repeat the job in the near future.  It's false economy otherwise (listening to the advice of everyone else on here about the job).  I've only done mine recently.  I think it was about 28 quid + vat for the gaskets for one side.  Black gunge required for the corners wasn't that much.  I wouldn't bother with the other gaskets (as I found out to my expense).

It's time consuming for the first time through, but if I could do it I reckon most people could.  I'm a spannering newbie.

Mine 3.2 V6 had a leak - it cost me £170 at local garage while in for an MOT.

Has anyone tried to use the black goo all over, instead of the gasket? Any luck?

You must use the gaskets as it is the only way to seal two metal / plastic surfaces together which are under torque pressure and become very hot, with oil trying to get out!

The black "gunge" helps to seal the gasket fully in place, particularly important as you are carefully dropping the cam covers into place as you install.

Robin Hood as kindly offered to get me the bits i need. My question i have now is am i doing the car any serious harm by driving it around in such a state, is there anything i can do to minimise the damage i could be causing to the car. I only ask because even when i get the parts i need to find someone who could do the work for me and i need to use the car as i have to get to work etc.
any advice is greatly appreciated.

The main thing is not to drive with a misfire as it will kill the Cats....
