Facelift Exhaust 2.6
« on: 13 October 2008, 19:57:13 »

Anyone any thoughts on replacing the exhaust? The joint where the rear box connects to system has spilt so I reckon it's time for a replacement.

Original did 126,000 miles. so should I buy OEM Vaux or find the cheapest aftermarket? I'm planning to change to the 3.2 rear box with the twin pipes as I assume that's the same fitment.

Any idea on a reasonable price to pay?

Your choices range from genuine Vx (without Trade Card) for £400+ to the cheapest pattern for £100+

A bit of a surf back through General Chat will show a few recent exhaust discussions and give you more info.

Budget constraints made me go for the cheapest pattern item but if I had the cash, I would definately consider a stainless one with a subtle but 'fruity' note. This option seems to be about the same price as the Vx one.

It seems (but can it be confirmed) that the latest VX systems are now the same as pattern.

If so get a custom stainless system, if VX are still OK use them

have a look see what you think, this is a 3.2 system so i dont know what youll actually get for a 2.5, but with twin tail pipe box it was 311 sobs. About 100 each for the 3 sections on trade club. A single pipe box was said to be about 50 sobs iirc. To me, the options are 3 fold now if this is what vx are punting out.
1.standard vx, presume youll get similar. 250 on tc? Link below.
2. Aftermarket job for about 90 sobs(?) as james cdx has maybe he ll post some pics?
3. Custom made stainless guaranteed for life,as Albatross and Sp.32 have, might be a good idea to have one of those made with an extra lambda socket at the back for when the precat issue lights up your dash. Iirc about 400?? I "imagine" that might be a bit of a gamble if you dont like the noise it makes? But Sp.32s sounded ok at the rolling road day last Sunday.

I suppose it depends how flush you are and how long you want to keep the car. Pays your money, makes your choice...

A member recently bought a "genuine" exhaust and it looked identical to the pattern system I just bought for a third of the price.

On my facelift Elite estate, I have the cheapest of the cheap exhausts - less than £100 from eternal car for all three sections.

I was expecting it to be awful, but it's quiet, sounds nice, and seems good quality, I really can't argue with it - and certainly can't see another £200+ worth in a GM system  :-/

I've start to ring around for quotes and I've only managed to get one so far from National for £264. Four others I've tried only have 2.5/3.0 listed not 2.6/3.2's so won't quote.

Neither http://eternalcar.com  or http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk list a 3.2 either

Is the 2.6/3.2 exhaust identical to the 2.5/3.0 exhaust ? and where is eveyone else buying the cheap facelift exhaust from?

i got a genuine VX one from my dealer its the older type as it had been hanging around on there shelf since 2004 (Chrome Tipped)

cost me £100 trade club but my centre sections were fine so i didnt replace them!

3.0 3.2 are twin tail pipe exhaust

2.5 is single pipe out and so is the 2.6 isnt it??? they are all interchangable though

cheapo exhausts can be found on eBay
