Shopping cart for OOF stuff
« on: 30 October 2007, 19:35:28 »

With a few people arranging OOF items etc, would it make sense for the admins to set up an OOF online 'shop'?

Obviously a lot to work out, as monies would come in centralised, and have to be forwarded on etc, and possibly other pitfalls  :-/

The only thing with Paypal is the charge to the seller then the charge to transfer the money from Paypal to an account.

True, but how else do you make a payment for items (except for cheques) the costs for using paypal could be factored in when seting up any price list for the item for sale

Not that I know much (if anything) about such things, but if it was an 'internal' payment type site then that will bypass the E-bay/Paypal fees situation and any percentages going to OOF coffers??

Seems a good idea.
The individual couls still own/sell the item, it doesn't have to go into a central pot. IMHO.

The admins would still have to pay someone for processing credit card transactions etc.

PayPal is pretty secure. My details are registered with them and i'm happy with that. I wouldn't be happy about providing financial details to other parties however. No offence intended, but things happen.

As Jim says, the small fees PayPal charge could be factored in. Besides, it's not like there would be people buying stuff at £200. More like £5. The fees are not that much for that amount. Worth it for the protection i think.

Just my tuppence worth.  :y

My point exactly, for example when you pay by credit or debit card in a shop, the shop keeper would have to pay the card company a small percentage for accepting the card and it's the same with paypal. the only way to make it cost effect would be to except cheque's only

Nice idea in principal, but think it could get over complicated if it is not actually OOF doing the selling
