no power steering
« on: 26 October 2008, 17:24:25 »

I went shopping witth the family today  and while i was out in the car the steering started to get a bit juddery   and when i was turning there was a strange noise coming from under the bonnet
after another 2 or 3 mins  the noise stopped and my steering was very heavy all the time

I have had a quick search and ive checked all the fuses etc
is it possible that the pump has gone? noise was coming from around the bottom front of engine (near the lower pulleys)

Just had a read through some previous posts and Fuse 14 seems to be a common cause.

It's possible the noise was unrelated...?

The number 14 fuse on my 2000 2.5 V6 does not cover the power steering ::) ::)  Probably another fuse that does on Doug's car? :-? :-?

Hi Lizzie.

MarksDTM's post here:
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1161602008
was posted in response to a 2.5 owner's query and shows F14 covers power steering in all cases.

What fuse is it on yours? No harm in checking 2 of them... :y

Interesting! 8-) 8-)

All I can say is that when my fuse 14 went in my facelift 2.5 V6 it cut all power to the dash panel, guages, lights, the radio and climate control panel, but the power steering remained FULLY functional. 8-) 8-) 8-)

It is dark now so I cannot check what other fuse covers my power steering. ;)

Doug

I have just checked the Owners Handbook and all those items that I know are controlled by fuse 14 on my 2.5 are listed under fuse 12!! :o :o

Is it possible Doug that your fuse 12 is for the power steering, with, like mine, fuse 14 covering c/c, the gauges, radio, etc? :-?

I'm afraid I cannot check mine as my garage is unlit someway from my flat! ::) ::)

Its the pump
I rechecked the level after it was dark and  used a torch  to see
I noticed little "glittery" bits in the fluid   :o

I recon its perhaps safe to say the pump is mashed  since there is fine bits of metal in the fluid.
bummer
ah well i might just look for a mot failure to buy and rob loads of bits off it  that i want for my car and now i have an excuse  :y
