front wheel judder
« on: 22 October 2008, 12:48:55 »

Okay, a while back i posted that when pulling away i get what is described as front wheel spin in an auto.

I have since tried using the gears manually, and in 1st it doesn't happen, only in D position.

Is this a gearbox or clutch or selector problem.

Thx

are you sure its your front wheel spinning?  Omegas are RWD....

might be the gearbox, or a loose drop link, knackered suspension...

how are you getting the front wheels to spin, when there is no power going to them?

yes i am sure it is the front wheels. It is like a slamming effect when pulling away quickly.

The suspension is fine, i am drawn towards a gearbox issue.!???

As said, if you have problems at the front of the car it can't be realated to the drive at all. It must be a supension or steering problem.

Gear box is not connected to the front wheels in anyway shape or form.

Could be one very nackered steering idler arm, or wishbone bush.

Can't see rubber tyres causing judder. can you clairfy a few things?

1) At a 60 / 80 mph cruise, is there wheel judder?

2) Is it there under heavy braking?

3) Is it there, if you just coast from 70-50?

4) You say it judders when you pull away hard? Where is this vibration? In the steering wheel? In the seat?

Could possibly be knackered engine mounts causing the drivetrain to shudder a bit as you pull away. Odd that it doesn't happen in 1st though.  :-/

If you'd like a second set of eyes over it I'd be happy to have a look.
