Book list time, for cambelt change, 2.5
« on: 27 October 2008, 20:22:45 »

Hi Guys

Does anyone know the official "book time" for a competent mechanic to change a V6 cambelt kit, on a 2.5 with a short plenum?

How much extra does it list for the 3.0, with the snoop plenum?

Just wondering, reason being I want to compare the book time, against how long I usually take to complete it...

James .. not very good at using the software .. but it "looks" like 3.0 hours for a 2001 3.2 (DBW) or 2.2 hours for a 1999 2.5

Not sure what/why the difference as the individual steps are not listed .. leastways .. I can't see them !!

:)

Some other software says 2.9 hours for the 2001 3.2 , 2.4 hours for the 1999 2.5 .. :(

er this is not very helpfull but, just add the long plenum removal time(has to come off) to the short plenum(does not have to come off) cam belt time? No? Oh, ok, ill go away now.

Er just a thought before i go. Is it possible to just remove the throttle body rather than the whole long plenum? Would that be quicker. Just wondered last time i did my 3.2? Ok, definately going away now. Bye.

Today, 2.5 V6, working leisurely, start to finish for cambelt kit, water pump, aux belt etc, was 3 hours, start to finish.

I encountered some mild difficulty with the pulley removal, and took some time to repair the vacc tank and multirams (would be rude not too while in there!)

Just wondered if that sounded about right.. I'm not sure how long it takes a VX "technician"...

That said, I'm only asking out of interest. I don't rush any jobs through, I prefer to provide quality over speed  :)

Cheers Nige.

Strange thing is, the 3.2 has no SAI, and lots of other bits are not there on the DBW engine - I'd therefore expect to do a 3.2 quicker than a 3.0!  ::)

Reading the post above .. it implies you don't need to remove the plenum on the short plenum jobbies .. but do on the "droop snoots" .. that might account for it ??

As I've never done the job I have no idea ... and 30,000 miles before I find out with any luck !!!  :) and that'll probably be watching you do it !!!

Over an hour to long.  ;D ;D :y

Book times are:

2.5/early 3.0 - 2.2 hours
3.0 late - 2.9 hours
2.6/3.2 -2.7 hours

Water pump adds 0.2

Hour too long maybe so, but

A) I'm sure nobody is going to complain if that time is spent making a good job, cleaning things up, etc.

B) That book time probably doesn't allow for things such as sorting out vacc pipe routing issues behind the plenum, which I did at the same time, within the time frame...
